Possible Chadwick 477 Substitute

I found this craft yard package at work while cleaning out an old locker from a craft class called "Fun with Fibers."  The package contains 10 skeins of natural colored yards (2 of each).

It seems to be a wool polyester/nylon blend, it's soft and has the sparkle of Antron yarn.  There is no way of knowing since the packaging gives no clue of the blend, not could I find the product online.

I compared it to Veniard's No. 477 and it looks close.  I have to tie a few Sawyer's Killer Bugs with the 3 closes matches and see which produces.  Needless the yarn looks very buggy and should work for several nymph patterns.

Won a 9' 5wt Rod at CJTU's Meeting

At last night's Central Jersey TU Meeting I won a 9' 5wt rod made by Art Port.  Most people know Art for his Cane Rods, but he will make plastic for the chapter as well as Cane for our fund raisers.  I do own a 6' 4wt Cane rod Art made me for some smaller streams I fish.  I don't need another 5wt but with 2 boys I'm sure I fine a use for it.

More shots Pentax W90

I got out the other day before my sons baseball game for about 2 hours.  The last of the Henderson's were out though nothing on top.  I set up my standard Czech Nymph rig with a Cooper Bug as my point fly and the trout hammered the Cooper Bug.  The Ice Pheasant Tail was also productive,  the browns hit the Cooper Bug and the Bow's were taken on the Ice Pheasant Tail.

I'm still testing my Pentax W90, over all I like it, however I've notice more noise in low lighting.

This Bow's stomach is bulge out, looks like it was feeding heavily on nymphs.

This Brown hammed the Cooper Bug.

Jersey Angler and Tenkara take 2

My buddy Jersey Angler posted this comment on his blog with regards to my video post.

"I like how he gets me on film almost falling on my ass but doesn't show me landing the fish.  Thanks buddy"!

So here is the second take.

Opening Day and Pentax W90

This year I decided to purchase a Pentax W90 to take with me while fishing.  I love my Nikon D200 and Canon G9, but it's a lot to lug around.  I used the G9 with a underwater housing, which works great, but it's bulky.  So far the W90 is turning out to be a good light rugged fishing camera, the noise level is acceptable but no where near my other cameras.  On the plus side it shoots 720p video which looks good.

It was a good opening day and the camera performed well.

Dreams of the Hatch

I've not gotten out to fish and have no time to tie. With Forsythia blooming in my area I've been dreaming of Henderson's on the wing. Water levels are high and temperature has cooled down, so I'm hoping the hatch is delayed. I would be nice to take fish on top.

Vices

Like many you start off modest and then upgrade.  Next thing you know you have 4 vices and desire a 5th.

First:  Thompson A  (Wasn't sure if I wanted to invest a lot into tying.)

Second: Regal (Loved tying and wanted better.)

Third: Renzetti Traveler (Regal to bulky for traveling, so buy a travel vice.)

Forth: Snowbee-WALDRON (Want a better desk vice but the exchange rate to high to get a LAW's.)

Fifth:  LAW Pedestal Vise (Setting money aside to place and order and hope the exchange rate is better.)

On the bench now.

Road Kill Materials

While picking up my boys from school on Monday I spotted a Pheasant on the opposite side of the high way.  Sure enough it was Cock Pheasant that met with windshield of a car some time over the weekend.  The breast and underside of the bird was destroyed.  The wings and tail feathers looked good so I clipped them. Now I need to do is to pick-up some Boraxo and clean meat off.  The tail is on the short side but has good long fibers.
