Troutrageous! Names Fishing Blogger Pro Staff

On July 3, 2013 I plus 9 other bloggers were named to the Troutrageous! Fishing Blogger Pro Staff.

What does this mean, I'm not sure.

According to Troutrageous the criteria for being named to the pro staff.
  1. You have to be a fishing blogger (of a blog I actually read)
  2. I need to have met you in person at least once
  3. You never agreed to be a member and are likely on this list against your will
For number one I guess I have to trust him that he actually reads my blog (even though it's not very active these days).  I have to admit I've met Mr. Troutrageous in the flesh, and yes he is just as funny in person.  Finally number 3 is a yes and double yes.

According to my lawyer there is nothing I can do.  So not only am I out some cash to consult with my lawyer I'm receiving all kinds on email because of this new found BLANK (I don't know what noun,   adjective or expletive to use).

Well maybe I exaggerate, in truth there was only one email, that from Troutrageous! warning of the blog post.  It is a fun post and I can't wait for next years inductees.

For the whole story go to Introducing The Troutrageous! Fishing Blogger Pro Staff  and take a tour of his site.

Thanks, Mike.

The Underwater World of Trout - 3 Volume Set Trailer

The Underwater World of Trout Series is an informative video collection, that every angler should own. Don't take my word here's what Lefty Kreh, Gary Borger, Jay "Fishy" Fullum, and Ed Jaworowski said.

“Not just trout fishermen but any fly fishermen stalking fish (bonefish, redfish and more) should buy and absorb what Ozzie has so well presented“.  - Lefty Kreh

“For most of us, this DVD by Ozzie Ozefovich, will provide a highly informative view of the world through the trout's window—a view that we all need to understand, but one that few have seen. Be certain that you see this DVD, it will make you a better angler“. - Gary Borger - Trout Vision & Refraction

“After viewing Feeding Lies,I plan to take a second look at stretches of water I passed up in the past. I will also re-think some of my presentations to the fish residing in these areas.” - Jay "Fishy" Fullum - Feeding Lies

“Feeding Lies will revolutionize trout fishing…no more guessing or imagining what goes on in the trout’s world. The most important trout video to date.”  - Ed Jaworowski - Feeding Lies

Wendell "Ozzie" Ozefovich has been filming and videotaping for more than four decades, so he has the skill and equipment to produce a quality experience. He is an accomplished fly fisherman who looks at a river not just as an angler, but also as a filmmaker. He asks the same questions you do—sometimes finding answers, sometimes finding more questions to ask.

There are no staged aquarium shots; these trout are in their natural environment. There is also footage of sea-run rainbow and brown trout. There are wild fish and stocked fish, fighting fish and spawning fish. You will see beneath the surface as trout feed on drifting invertebrates and surface flies, and how a trout views an angler through its window.

There is a segment on electrofishing and stream bank restoration, which will show that anglers, together with private conservation organizations and government agencies, can work together toward a common goal. This is one of the few presentations that almost everyone from rank beginner to crusty old cuss walks away having learned something!

For information please contact: underwateroz@comcast.net or visit http://www.underwateroz.com/index.html

In full disclosure I was hired be Ozzie to do the motion graphics on "Trout Vision and Refraction." I'm not receiving any compensation for this post or sales of his videos.  Ozzie gave me permission to post this clip, which is copyrighted © 2013 Underwater Oz Production.

Congratulations! to Fly and Fin on winning the 'Fly Fishing' award.

While I've not posted, while the blog is in limbo, I had to brake the silence.

I found it funny to receive this award since I've not posted in 6 months. I tried to find out something about SnippetFact.com and if this meant any thing.  I gather it is a start-up and most people who get these are surprised.  It looks like users recommend sites that are fact based.

Winter Fishing So Far...

This winter is great, if you don't like snow. We've started this winter with a charged river system, which translates into higher than normal river levels. Since this fall and early winter the amount of rain and snow is off, resulting now in lower than normal steam levels. Historically, my home river, the South Branch of Raritan, should be at 110 to 140 cubic feet per second. Now the river is at 83 cubic feet per second. Here in the east we don't rely on the snow pack, but in the west it's still important. It's important for many of the same reasons anywhere else in the world. The main reason is the slow and steady release of cold-water help charges ground water without massive runoff.

Why, you might ask, is this important. Well in one word - hatches. These levels, coupled with the warm spring-like weather we've been having in the east, are likely to affect the spring hatches. It may only mean a day or two, but when you're trying to time your day on the water, it means a lot. Since the spring hatches are some time off it many not matter much if we get our normal spring rain.

For right now I've been enjoying the spring-like weather in the middle of the winter. February is usually our coldest month and everyone has a bad case of cabin fever. Not this February, here are some shots from this winter's outings.

Let's see if March marches in like a Lion, so far it's more like a YouTube kitten.
Here are some of the fish I've taken this winter.

Where's the hook?

I never heard this selling angle before.

Troy from American Milestone left a message, re: an opportunity to be part of an “interstitial program” that featured Joan Lunden.  So what's an interstitial program?  Well, it’s a 3 - 5 minute editorial used to bridge the gap between longer PBS programs.  Cool you might say.  Okay… so I called back to find out more after doing a little research on line.  Everything seemed above- board.

The phone call was pleasant and Troy informed me about the show and what they do.  He asked a few questions, but really didn’t have a clue what I did or what Fly and Fin was.  So I played along, because I didn't know what he wanted yet.  After a few questions about Fly and Fin (which he never referred to by name) he came to the real nature of the call.

The question was what kind of advertising budget I had.  Advertising budget?

I tried not to laugh, and said I had modest budget ($0.00 to be exact).  He then said creating a program might not be a match unless I had $22,000.00 dollars to pay for the piece.  I said no thank you, hung-up the phone and had a good laugh.

Later I was talking to The Jersey Angler about this weekend’s Fly Fishing show and told him what happened.  He said, “Well, it’s obvious your blog is getting out there.”

The next A River Runs Through It?

Coming to a theater near you Salmon Fishing in the Yemen the movie.  This adaptation of Paul Torday's 2007 novel Salmon Fishing in the Yemen premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival this week.   No release date for general audiences, but CBS Films acquired the U.S.distribution rights.

Here is the plot according to the Wikipedia. "A fisheries scientist finds himself reluctantly involved in a project to bring salmon fishing to the wadis of the Highlands of Yemen, and change British political history and the course of his life."

Will this be the next A River Runs Through It? I don't know, but they do need to practice their casting.

Finally a Day on the Water - NOT

It's been a cold long winter here in the east.  Finally, the temperatures rose and the snow started to melt, but than came the rains.  Because it was so cold for so long and the melt was slow the streams are in great shape.  The ground water seems to be recharged and I thought I could get out, but then the rains came.

Flood stage is at 10' the USGS gauge
read 9.8' when I took this photo.

Sunny day, temperatures in the high forties, but way am I going to get my flies on the bottom and forget fishing the edges.  Too boot there is more rain on the way I'm crossing my fingers that I can squeeze in some time before the next storm. I love to have water in the system, but I've got cabin fever.

The River Why - NYC screening at the ACEFEST Film Festival 8/27/2010

"The River Why" New York City premier will be on Friday 8/27/2010 at the ACEFEST Film Festival. The screening will be at theTribeca Cinemas Screen I and will start at 7:30pm. tickets are $8.00 (click here for tickets)

Tribeca Cinemas is located on 54 Varick Street New York, NY 10013 (map it).

While I've only seen the trailer I'm going to try to see this film. The River Why is set on the banks of "a wild river" and is a story of Gus Orviston, who leave the city to rebel from his family and lives in a remote cabin along a wild river.

Mainly a story of self-discovery of a young man finding his way through the world with fishing, the river and assorted characters guiding him on his way. It's also a love story so you may convince your other half to join you.

Here is the trailer:
