Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph - Strikes again

Frank Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph is simply brilliant!

It imitates so many mayfly of nymphs it a great searching pattern, but when a hatch is on and the fish aren't rising tie one on that matches the size of the natural.  You'll be glad you did.

This Big Boy took a size 14 Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph

Size matters...

Size matters only when your fishing with your buddy and dinner is on the line.

But I could catch these wild Brown Trout all day.

Just a brilliant wild Brown Trout.

Just look at this bright red adipose fin.

One Eye Rainbow

New Jersey is the most densely state in the nation. With that comes greater fishing pressure, so it's not on common for fish to lose an eye from an encounter with a fly.

On the positive side a fish can an will survive even with one eye.

Remember mash down those barbs.

This healthy Rainbow looks fine at first glance, but...

It's lost one eye in a battle some time ago, but still found my Tan UV Caddis.

A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.

So the saying goes "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work."

Well this was just bliss.

Nice.
Still Nice.

Still just nice.

Okay Nicer.

Nicest.

Banner Day!

Work and my son's Little League season has limited my time at the vice and on the stream.  However I got out the other day and had a banner 3 hours on the stream.  The stream level was perfect and there was a hatch of Blue Wing Olives and Sulfurs (on the early side this year).  No fish were working the surface but they did hammer the Sawyer's Pheasant Tail (size 14) and my Tan UV Caddis Jig nymph.

I wished I could have stayed for the evening spinner fall.

Brown Trout falls victim to the Tan VU Caddis Jig

I'm still playing with he W90, this is a short clip of a Brown fell victim to Tan VU Caddis Jig.  I need to figure out how to both fish and camera at the same time.  It's hard to film when you can't see to subject.

Sulfurs, Sulfurs Everywhere!

The Sulfurs hatch is on so I went out this past Friday to catch the spinner fall. Based on these photos (note the egg sacks), I'm heading out Saturday early.

Each white dot is a Sulfur with an egg sack.

Should be a good hatch next year.
