The Source : New Zealand by Gin-Clear Ltd.

Here is a destination video by Gin-Clear Gin-Clear Ltd. This is the second in the series, the first being "The Source - Tasmania".

"The Source – New Zealand captures those special moments that define a fishing trip and through these we get a glimpse of what the Kiwi experience means to each of the featured anglers. For some, it means casting size 18 emergers to delirious brown trout during a blanket hatch, for others it's catching a 10lb + fish on a dry fly, for others it's a jet boat ride into a remote fiord!"

Always Travel with a Fly Rod

While out in Denver the Jersey Angler and I had some time to kill before our flight back east. So we went on walk down to the REI and to see if we could find some feeding Carp on the South Platte. Well we found them...

Feeding Carp on the South Platte in Denver

In all we counted about 8 but only one was actively feeding.

Of course we were both kicking ourselves for not have packed at least one travel outfit.

Diablo Paddlesports

What do you get when you combine a stand-up paddle board and a kayak? Well you get a devilish creation call by Thomas Flemons of Diablo Paddlesports the "Sup-Yak".  A hybrid of two great ways to get around on the water a stand-up paddle board and kayaking.

The Adios is 12.5' long and 36" wide has all the confront of a sit-on-top kayak with the stability of a stand-up paddle board. Weighting in at 69 pounds it has the ability to support over 400 pounds!

The Chupacabra  is10.5' long, and 37" wide and weighs 56 lbs.  Similar to the Adios the Chupacabra is nibbler version of it's bigger brother.

I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Tom at the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show and he ran down the feature and design of both vessels.  He sold me on getting one (maybe even two).  I'm just torn between which one. The Adios seems to be the most versatile for the local reservoirs and Raritan Bay. The Chupacabra is smaller and lighter which make it ease loading on an off my Element. Also I believe the Chupacabra is an decedent of the Jersey Devil (the stories of the Chupacabra are far to similar to our beloved NJ Pine Barrens resident).

I'll just have to take Tom up on his offer to try out both next time I'm in Texas, by chance his operation is not far from family in the Lone Star State.

3M's Scientific Anglers Buys Ross

I'm not sure how I feel about this, but on September 30, 2010 – 3M announced it acquired
Ross Reels USA/Ross Worldwide Outdoors of Colorado.

I have nothing against 3M or Scientific Anglers, I use and like there products. It's the loss
of a independent designer/manufacture of quality reels and and now rods.

I enjoy my Ross reels and they have never let me down, and the New F1
is to die for.

At the IFTD Show I got the chance to look one over and it is SWEET.

Ross F1
The drag uses breaking technology from Formula 1 race cars.

I don't know what Ross Worldwide will look in a year or two after 3M takes over, but I know I pick up my F1 very soon.

Also I got to try out the New RX Fly rods, this fast action, progressive taper rod was a pleasure to cast.  I was very taken with the rod and had to cast it everyday I was at the show to make sure it wasn't a dream.

Back in the water.

Well I've been in dry dock for far to long.  I've been playing catch up for the last month.  Thanks to all for the well wishes.

I was able to make it out to the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show in Denver with The Jersey Angler and while out there met up with Cameron of The Fiberglass Manifesto, Jean-Paul of Rough Fisher and Kyle of Compleat Thought.  It was a pleasure to meet the persons behind the blogs I follow.  There were a host of old friends that were out there and many new friends.  I'm looking forward to next years Show in New Orleans.

There is a lot to write about and I'll be posting on some of the new products that caught my eye and soon my wallet.

I'm in dry dock...

Sorry for the post stopping with out notice.

I had a medical event which required removal of one of my parts (every one said you don't need it), but why is it still have it (no answer).   At no time during my days of fun did I think of selling all my stuff and moving to Montana, or maybe Colorado, or Patagonia, and Alaska never entered my mind.  Any rumors of my stuff appearing on eBay are false (some rods I'm going to take with me).

I'm recovering now and should be up to posting soon.

Thanks for visiting,  check out some of the older post.

Yellow Monga Streamer

While tying with "The Jersey Angler" I was playing with some streamer patterns getting ready for the fall.  This patten is inspired by Bob Jacklin's "South Branch Chub."  I'll try to post it some time soon.

Hook: 6X long streamer
Size: 6-10
Thread: Yellow UNI-Stretch.
Body: Yellow UNI-Stretch.
Ribbing: Gold Tinsel and Copper Wire.
Wing: White and Black Monga Ringtail Hair (sparsely dressed).
Head: Chinese Red UNI-Stretch.

 1. Mash down barb and bead and wind on lead wire.

  2. Gold Tinsel and Copper Wire.

 3. Wind on the Yellow UNI-Stretch to form the body.

 4. Advance the Gold Tinsel with open turns (counter clockwise).

5. Advance the Copper Wire with open turns (clockwise).

6. Tie in the white and black Ringtail Monga hair wing.

7. Whip finish the yellow UNI-Stretch, finish
the head with Chinese Red UNI-Stretch
and apply head cement.

I got out the other day when the weather had gotten cooler and decide to give the Yellow Monga a try and I wasn't disappointed. Both rainbows hit it this fly like a runaway freight train.

The River Why - NYC screening at the ACEFEST Film Festival 8/27/2010

"The River Why" New York City premier will be on Friday 8/27/2010 at the ACEFEST Film Festival. The screening will be at theTribeca Cinemas Screen I and will start at 7:30pm. tickets are $8.00 (click here for tickets)

Tribeca Cinemas is located on 54 Varick Street New York, NY 10013 (map it).

While I've only seen the trailer I'm going to try to see this film. The River Why is set on the banks of "a wild river" and is a story of Gus Orviston, who leave the city to rebel from his family and lives in a remote cabin along a wild river.

Mainly a story of self-discovery of a young man finding his way through the world with fishing, the river and assorted characters guiding him on his way. It's also a love story so you may convince your other half to join you.

Here is the trailer:
